New York Yankees - Overview (2024)

  • NestorCortes

    NYY Starting Pitcher #65

Nestor Cortes pitched four innings and allowed four runs Sunday against the Guardians.

The highlight for Cortes today was a delivery in which he stopped for a second and faked a toss home before finally throwing his pitch, resulting in a four ball from Andrés Giménez. The rest was all less impressive, as he gave up homers to José Ramírez and Gabriel Arías. He’ll face the Rays at home next weekend.

  • AaronJudge

    NYY Right Fielder #99

Aaron Judge crushed a three-run homer Sunday against the Guardians.

The 450-foot blast left his bat at 114 mph. Judge had gone six straight games without an RBI prior to the homer today. The singles just haven’t been there this year, but eight of his 12 hits have gone for extra bases, and he’s walked 16 times, giving him an .821 OPS in spite of a .207 average. It also helps that all three of his homers have come with men on base, supplying seven of his nine RBI. Last year, 23 of his 37 homers were solo shots.

  • Juan Soto clobbered a three-run homer on Saturday, powering the Yankees to an 8-2 victory over the Guardians in the second game of their doubleheader.

Soto tattooed a 2-0 fastball from Triston McKenzie in the fourth inning for a 408-foot (104.4 mph EV) three-run shot that increased the Bombers’ advantage to 6-0. He also drew a pair of walks and scored two runs in the ballgame, finishing the night 1-for-3. The 25-year-old superstar is settling in nicely during his first season with the Yankees — slashing .333/.458/.544 with three homers and 15 RBI.

  • AnthonyVolpe

    NYY Shortstop #11

Anthony Volpe went 2-for-4, scored a pair of runs and swiped his fifth base of the season as the Yankees triumphed over the Guardians in the nightcap of Saturday’s doubleheader.

The 22-year-old speedster led off the game with a walk, stole second base and came around to score on an RBI single by Anthony Rizzo. He also delivered a run-scoring single of his own in the fourth inning and rode home on Juan Soto’s three-run blast. He’s settling in nicely atop the Yankees’ lineup, slashing a stellar .353/.450/.529 with two homers, seven RBI and five stolen bases.

  • CodyPoteet

    NYY Starting Pitcher #72

Cody Poteet twirled a gem in Saturday’s victory over the Guardians, allowing just one run on six hits over his six frames.

The right-hander struck out four batters on the evening and didn’t issue a walk. The only blemish on his night came on a solo blast off the bat of Estevan Florial in the fifth inning. Poteet needed just 77 pitches (50 strikes) to get through six innings, getting four swings and misses and posting a CSW of 25 percent. He’ll now head back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre where he’ll await his next opportunity.

  • ClaytonAndrews

    NYY Relief Pitcher #74

Yankees sent LHP Clayton Andrews outright to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Andrews passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment earlier this week and will remain with New York as extra relief depth.

  • McKinleyMoore

    NYY Relief Pitcher #67

Yankees activated RHP McKinley Moore from the 15-day injured list; optioned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Moore has completed his rehabilitation from a right knee injury and will remain stationed in the upper minors as extra organizational relief depth.

  • RonMarinaccio

    NYY Relief Pitcher #97

Yankees recalled RHP Ron Marinaccio from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Marinaccio was a surprise cut from New York’s roster at the end of spring training, but he finds himself back in the Yankees’ bullpen for the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Guardians.

  • JoshMaciejewski

    NYY Relief Pitcher #61

Yankees designated LHP Josh Maciejewski for assignment.

Maciejewski has been removed from New York’s 40-man roster to make room for the club to add infielder Kevin Smith. The 28-year-old lefty made one relief appearance after being called up earlier this week.

  • KevinSmith

    NYY Shortstop #74

Yankees selected the contract of INF Kevin Smith from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Smith has been added to New York’s bench to replace an injured Jon Berti. The 27-year-old infielder signed a minor league contract with the Yankees back in January after being non-tendered last November by the Athletics.
