Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Could begin rehab stint this week

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that LeMahieu (foot) could begin rehab assignment once the club finishes up the current road trip Wednesday in Toronto, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
The 35-year-old is travelling with the Yankees on the road trip and has continued to progress in his rehab work, with game action now seemingly on the horizon. LeMahieu was healthy for most of spring training before suffering the foot fracture in mid-March, so he shouldn't require an extended rehab assignment and could join the Yankees before the end of April.

Yankees' Gerrit Cole: Plays catch for second time

Cole (elbow) played catch Thursday, MLB.com reports.
Cole played catch for the second time since being placed on the 60-day injured list March 28 with nerve irritation and edema in his right elbow. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that the ace hurler's session Thursday "went well," though it's not yet clear when Cole will next throw. The right-hander isn't eligible to come off the injured list until late May, and the organization isn't expected to push him to be ready by then, so he'll likely progress slowly through his throwing program.

Yankees' Spencer Jones: Makes season debut

Jones (neck) played his first game of the season for Double-A Somerset on Saturday, going 2-for-3 with one walk, one double, three runs and one RBI.
Jones missed the first seven contests of the campaign for Somerset due to a stiff neck, but he didn't appear to be hampered by the issue in his return to the lineup. The 22-year-old was tabbed to begin the season at the Double-A level after an impressive spring training with the Yankees, but he could get his first taste of Triple-A ball in short order if he continues to perform well. Jones is among the organization's top prospects and could make his MLB debut sometime this season.

Torres came around to score New York's third run of the game on an Anthony Volpe single after drawing a walk and then stealing second to open the fourth inning. The second baseman would then come around to score a second time in the fifth, marking just the second time this season in which he's scored two runs in a game. Torres has now hit safely in back-to-back contests, though he's still batting just .222 in April with two RBI, two stolen bases and four runs scored.

Soto drew a walk but was otherwise quiet with an 0-for-4 line in Game 1 of the twin bill. However, me made plenty of noise in the nightcap with a 408-foot, three-run blast in the fourth inning. The long ball was Soto's third this season, and he's added 15 RBI through 15 games. The star outfielder is off to a strong start to his tenure with New York, slashing .333/.458/.544 with a 14:10 BB:K through 72 plate appearances.

Volpe went 2-for-4 with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base Saturday's win over the Guardians in game two of the doubleheader.
Volpe drew a leadoff walk to open the contest and stole second before coming around to score New York's first run of the game on an Anthony Rizzo single. He would later add an RBI single of his own in the top of the fourth while also scoring a second time. It marked the fifth multi-hit performance of the season for the young shortstop and the fourth game in which he's scored at least two runs. Furthermore, he's gone four consecutive games without striking out, drawing four walks over that stretch.

Poteet was up as the 27th man for a doubleheader versus the Guardians and dazzled as the starter of the second game, tossing six innings of one-run ball with four strikeouts. It was his first outing in the majors since July of 2022, and he surely earned another look down the line, but for now Poteet will rejoin the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre rotation.

Moore was unable to pitch during spring training as a result of right knee bursitis, and he has been on the injured list since Opening Day. Now fully recovered, Moore will serve as organizational depth in Triple-A, where he turned in a 1.38 ERA and 1.69 WHIP in 13 innings last season as part of the Phillies' farm system.
