  • Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Could begin rehab stint this week

    Rotowire

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that LeMahieu (foot) could begin rehab assignment once the club finishes up the current road trip Wednesday in Toronto, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

The 35-year-old is travelling with the Yankees on the road trip and has continued to progress in his rehab work, with game action now seemingly on the horizon. LeMahieu was healthy for most of spring training before suffering the foot fracture in mid-March, so he shouldn't require an extended rehab assignment and could join the Yankees before the end of April.

  • Yankees' Gerrit Cole: Plays catch for second time

    Rotowire

Cole (elbow) played catch Thursday, MLB.com reports.

Cole played catch for the second time since being placed on the 60-day injured list March 28 with nerve irritation and edema in his right elbow. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that the ace hurler's session Thursday "went well," though it's not yet clear when Cole will next throw. The right-hander isn't eligible to come off the injured list until late May, and the organization isn't expected to push him to be ready by then, so he'll likely progress slowly through his throwing program.

  • Yankees' Spencer Jones: Makes season debut

    Rotowire

Jones (neck) played his first game of the season for Double-A Somerset on Saturday, going 2-for-3 with one walk, one double, three runs and one RBI.

Jones missed the first seven contests of the campaign for Somerset due to a stiff neck, but he didn't appear to be hampered by the issue in his return to the lineup. The 22-year-old was tabbed to begin the season at the Double-A level after an impressive spring training with the Yankees, but he could get his first taste of Triple-A ball in short order if he continues to perform well. Jones is among the organization's top prospects and could make his MLB debut sometime this season.

  • Yankees' Austin Wells: Resting Sunday

    Rotowire

Wells is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians.

Wells is getting a breather after he was behind the plate for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, finishing 0-for-3 with an RBI in the Yankees' 8-2 win. Jose Trevino will draw the start at catcher in the series finale, forming a battery with left-hander Nestor Cortes.

  • Guardians look to bounce back, avoid sweep vs. Yankees

    Stats

  • Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Swipes third bag

    Rotowire

Torres went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base in Saturday's win over Cleveland in game two of the doubleheader. He also drew a walk.

Torres came around to score New York's third run of the game on an Anthony Volpe single after drawing a walk and then stealing second to open the fourth inning. The second baseman would then come around to score a second time in the fifth, marking just the second time this season in which he's scored two runs in a game. Torres has now hit safely in back-to-back contests, though he's still batting just .222 in April with two RBI, two stolen bases and four runs scored.

  • Yankees' Juan Soto: Belts third homer

    Rotowire

Soto went 1-for-7 with a three-run home run, three walks and two total runs in Saturday's doubleheader sweep of Cleveland.

Soto drew a walk but was otherwise quiet with an 0-for-4 line in Game 1 of the twin bill. However, me made plenty of noise in the nightcap with a 408-foot, three-run blast in the fourth inning. The long ball was Soto's third this season, and he's added 15 RBI through 15 games. The star outfielder is off to a strong start to his tenure with New York, slashing .333/.458/.544 with a 14:10 BB:K through 72 plate appearances.

  • Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Stays hot with two hits, RBI

    Rotowire

Volpe went 2-for-4 with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base Saturday's win over the Guardians in game two of the doubleheader.

Volpe drew a leadoff walk to open the contest and stole second before coming around to score New York's first run of the game on an Anthony Rizzo single. He would later add an RBI single of his own in the top of the fourth while also scoring a second time. It marked the fifth multi-hit performance of the season for the young shortstop and the fourth game in which he's scored at least two runs. Furthermore, he's gone four consecutive games without striking out, drawing four walks over that stretch.

  • Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera: Knocks key homer Saturday

    Rotowire

Cabrera went 2-for-8 with a home run, a double, a walk and three total RBI in Saturday's doubleheader sweep of the Guardians.

Cabrera had the Yankees' biggest hit in Game 1 of the twin bill, swatting a two-run homer in the sixth inning that proved key in a narrow 3-2 victory. The third baseman added a run-scoring double in the nightcap to round out a productive day. Cabrera has reached base safely via hit or walk in all but one of his 11 contests so far this season and is slashing .317/.378/.585 with three homers, 11 RBI and eight runs through 45 plate appearances.

  • Yankees' Cody Poteet: Returned to Triple-A

    Rotowire

Poteet was returned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre by the Yankees on Saturday.

Poteet was up as the 27th man for a doubleheader versus the Guardians and dazzled as the starter of the second game, tossing six innings of one-run ball with four strikeouts. It was his first outing in the majors since July of 2022, and he surely earned another look down the line, but for now Poteet will rejoin the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre rotation.

  • Yankees' Clayton Andrews: Outrighted to Triple-A

    Rotowire

The Yankees sent Andrews outright to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.

Andrews went unclaimed off waivers after being DFA'd by the Yankees on Monday, so he will officially remain within the organization. The 27-year-old southpaw has gotten off to a rough start in the minors, allowing six earned runs across 3.2 innings while striking out two batters and walking six.

  • Yankees' McKinley Moore: Activated, optioned to Triple-A

    Rotowire

The Yankees reinstated Moore (knee) from the 15-day injured list Saturday and optioned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Moore was unable to pitch during spring training as a result of right knee bursitis, and he has been on the injured list since Opening Day. Now fully recovered, Moore will serve as organizational depth in Triple-A, where he turned in a 1.38 ERA and 1.69 WHIP in 13 innings last season as part of the Phillies' farm system.

  • Yankees' Cody Poteet: Added as 27th man

    Rotowire

The Yankees added Poteet to their roster to start the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against Cleveland.

Poteet has started two games at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this year, surrendering just two runs through 8.1 innings while posting a 12:2 K:BB. He will almost certainly return to Triple-A after his spot start Saturday.

  • Yankees' Ron Marinaccio: Recalled from Triple-A

    Rotowire

The Yankees recalled Marinaccio from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday, YES Network reports.

The Yankees DFA'd Josh Maciejewski on Saturday to create room on the 40-man roster for Kevin Smith, so Marinaccio will come up to as Maciejewski's replacement in the bullpen. The 28-year-old righty logged a 3.99 ERA and 1.31 WHIP across 47.1 innings last season in the majors, and he has yet to allow a run through five Triple-A frames this year.

  • Yankees' Kevin Smith: Added to roster

    Rotowire

The Yankees selected Smith's contract from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday, YES Network reports.

With Jon Berti landing on the injured list due to an adductor injury, Smith will be brought up from the minors to give the Yankees additional infield depth. The 27-year-old owns a .173/.215/.301 slash line through 333 career plate appearances, and he's posted just a .494 OPS through nine games in Triple-A.

  • Yankees' Josh Maciejewski: Designated for assignment

    Rotowire

The Yankees designated Maciejewski for assignment Saturday, YES Network reports.

Less than a week after being selected from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Maciejewski will head back to the minors and lose his roster spot after making just one appearance with the Yankees. The 28-year-old southpaw has not allowed a run and has struck out five batters through 4.2 Triple-A innings.

  • Yankees' Jon Berti: Headed to injured list

    Rotowire
