Remembering Ryan Nicholson: A Life of Curiosity, Music, and Adventure (2026)

A life cut short, yet filled with curiosity and passion - that was Ryan Andrew Nicholson. We mourn the loss of this brilliant soul, taken from us too soon at just 33 years old. His passing on December 18, 2025, leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Ryan's journey began in Sudbury, Ontario, on February 1, 1992. From an early age, he exhibited an insatiable curiosity and a creative spirit that defined his life. His intellectual pursuits and meaningful connections left an indelible mark on those around him.

Educationally, Ryan charted his own course. Starting at Chelmsford Public School in Azilda, he later attended Ernie Checkeris and Carl Nesbitt Public Schools in Sudbury. Determined to forge his path, he obtained his GED and graduated from Cambrian College with an Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology. His academic achievements set the stage for a promising future.

But here's where it gets controversial... Ryan's passion for music often took precedence over his formal education. He pursued his love for music with the same dedication as his studies. From guitar and piano lessons to working at Jet Landry Music, Ryan's musical journey was a parallel path to his academic pursuits. This passion project became a cherished part of his life, nurtured by the support of friends like Jet, Lucy, and Jet Junior.

Ryan's interests were as diverse as they were deep. He was an avid reader, delving into classic literature and exploring topics like politics and investment strategies. His appreciation for nature was equally profound. As a teenager, he embraced the great outdoors through camping, hiking, and canoeing. Memorable trips to Angel's Landing in Zion National Park, White Mountain in New Hampshire, and the Silhouette Trail in Killarney Park inspired him to capture over 500 photographs, a testament to his artistic eye.

In recent years, Ryan shared his love for hiking with his partner, Kady Bilodeau, exploring Sleeping Giant Provincial Park and the La Cloche Mountains. Their adventures together created lasting memories.

Ryan is survived by his loving partner, Kady; parents, Dennis and Heather Nicholson; brother, Daniel Nicholson; and grandmothers, Shirley Nicholson and Roberta McMullan. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, and cousins, including Doug McMullan Jr. (Liz Dumas), Hugh McMullan, Len Nicholson (Kathy), Tracy Nadeau (Jim McKay), Terry Nicholson (Vicki Savard), Jake (Natasha), Justin (Chelsey), Darren (Jackie), Vanessa (Devon), Carson, Christopher (Tia), Hanna, and Esme. Long-time friend Brodie Chisholm also mourns his passing.

Ryan is now at peace, reunited with his grandfathers, Gary Nicholson and Douglas McMullan Sr.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Ryan's memory. This is a fitting tribute to a life well-lived and a soul that touched so many.
