So, first things first, before dreaming about all those amazing places to visit in 2 weeks, here are some travel tips to make your trip better!

HOW TO GET AROUND

Switzerland offers several excellent (I mean seriously excellent) transportation options for getting around, depending on your preference and itinerary.

ROAD TRIP FOR 2 WEEKS IN SWITZERLAND

Renting a car for a Switzerland road trip is a great choice, especially if you want to explore the country’s scenic routes and countryside. Switzerland has a well-maintained network of highways and smaller roads, and driving in Switzerland is relatively easy and safe.

However, keep in mind that some of the mountain passes and narrow roads may require extra caution and experience. Also, note that parking in cities can be expensive, and some areas have restricted traffic zones. I have a very detailed post on a road trip in Switzerland with all my insider tips.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION FOR A 2-WEEK SWITZERLAND TRIP

Alternatively, Switzerland has a comprehensive public transportation system that includes trains, buses, trams, and boats.

SWISS TRAVEL PASS FOR 15 DAYS

The Swiss Travel Pass is a popular option that offers unlimited access to most of these modes of transport, as well as discounts on mountain railways and cable cars. The trains are particularly efficient and punctual, and you can enjoy panoramic views from many of the routes.

For this itinerary, especially if you travel solo or in a group of two only, a 15-day pass for the Swiss Travel Pass would probably be the best choice for your 2-week Switzerland trip!

Whatever your choice, getting around Switzerland is relatively straightforward and enjoyable, and you’re sure to have a fantastic time exploring this beautiful country.

Especially on a warmer day, I would make sure to spend your evening at the shores of Lake Zurich and end your day with a drink at the lake.

To get to Piz Corvatsch, take a scenic cable car ride from Surlej near St.Moritz. Once you arrive at the top of the mountain, enjoy several outdoor activities, such as skiing, snowboarding, and hiking, depending on the season.

The views from there are some of the best – glaciers on the one side, the lakes of St.Moritz on the other side. And then you can do some hikes and see more glaciers and even hike down to Roseg Valley – read more on how to spend one day in St.Moritz here.

BENINA EXPRESS

On the second day in St.Moritz, take the Bernina Express, a scenic train ride that takes you from St. Moritz to Tirano, Italy, passing through the Swiss Alps and the Bernina Pass.

The train ride offers breathtaking views of the glaciers, snow-capped mountains, and Alpine villages. If you are short on time, just do the part of St.Moritz to Alp Grüm which is already pretty amazing.

Stop at Diavolezza train station, and take the cable car up to Diavolezza, a mountain that offers stunning views of the Bernina Range and the Morteratsch Glacier. From Diavolezza, go on a scenic hike or enjoy a drink at the famous Diavolezza Bar, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers.

Then continue your journey to stunning Alp Grüm, passing beautiful Lago di Blanco.

Ahhh, though you might not be able to do the whole Bernina Express train ride, this is one of the most scenic train rides in Switzerland that will you speechless.

After returning from the train ride, spend the rest of the day exploring St. Moritz, visiting the shops and boutiques, or chilling at one of the numerous lakes in St.Moritz.

TIP: Just take the local trains instead of the official Bernina Express – the route is the same, though there are a few more stops. BUT there is no compulsory reservation fee like in the Bernina Express and once you get out, you lose your reservation. Especially given that reservation fees are quite high (up to 30 CHF for one way), I recommend taking the local trains instead. Check out my tips for the Bernina Express.

ALTERNATIVE ITINERARY FOR 2 WEEKS IN SWITZERLAND

As mentioned at the beginning, here is the second itinerary. It is not completely different but you will not visit St.Moritz and do the Glacier Express Ride, nor the beautiful Montreux and Lake Geneva region.

With these 5 spare days, you can now spend 2-3 extra days in Interlaken (with these many day trips from Interlaken), spend a day longer in Zermatt, and do a day trip from Lucerne to the beautiful city of Bern and or Basel.

ITINERARY SUGGESTION 2

This 2-week itinerary for Switzerland is rather suited for those, who do not wish to travel that much, which also means changing hotels less often. This itinerary is also stunning but means you will see not the western part of Switzerland as much as you would in the first itinerary, but discover more of northern, and central Switzerland – also some gorgeous areas.

  • DAY 3-6 – LUCERNE & DAY TRIPS
  • DAY 7- 11 INTERLAKEN & DAY TRIPS
  • DAY 13- 14 ZERMATT & DAY TRIPS

1 DAY – BERN

While Bern is a beautiful city that deserves more than a day trip, it is still possible to see some of the city’s main attractions in one day if you are short on time.

To get to Bern from Lucerne, you can take a direct train that takes about an hour. Once you arrive in Bern, head to the old town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and start your walking tour.
