Can I Use Different Fruit in This Turnover?

Yes! It is so easy to turn this into a peach turnover, apple turnover, cherry turnover, or even blueberry turnover. You can easily use almost any fruit or pie filling in this turnover to add a new flavor to your menu.

I like using apples when they are in season, blueberries in the spring, and I have even macerated strawberries and tucked inside these for a sweet treat with a bit of homemade whipped cream. So rich, creamy, and delicious!

Get creative with how you use this recipe and customize it to your preferences. Another great addition to this recipe is golden raisins mixed in with the fruit.

Are These Turnovers Freezer Friendly?

If you want to make large batches and freeze ahead of time, this is a great choice. You can prepare your filling and fold the turnovers as if you would be baking them, but instead, wrap them in plastic wrap and freeze. All you have to do is pull them from the freezer and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake as directed.

When baking from frozen, you will need to add between 7-10 additional minutes to your cook time. Just watch to make sure they don't burn and check the internal temperature if they look like they are getting a bit too browned.

If you choose to freezer your turnovers, make sure to label and date your packaging so you know when and what you froze. Another great pastry treat to freeze is these cinnamon French toast roll ups. So easy to make in batches and freeze for easy meals down the road.

How to Make a Pear Turnover Recipe

For this recipe, you will begin by preheating your oven to 200ºC or 400ºF.

Now you will peel, core, and slice your pears into small pieces.

In a bowl, combine your pears with cinnamon, nutmeg, and caramel sauce.

To create the turnover, you will roll out the puff pastry sheet as shown.

Cut into large squares, and then fold the squares in half to form a triangle. Now, you will cut each folded triangle into two pieces.

Place a tablespoon of the pear filling onto one half of each triangle and then brush the edges of the pastry with cold water.

Fold the triangles in half and pinch the edges together. You will also want to press the edges down with a fork to secure them better.

Trim any excess puff pastry off to make a neat triangle shape.

Whisk your egg until frothy, then brush the tops of your turnovers with egg and top with a sprinkle of brown sugar.

Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
