5 WWE Superstars Who Need a Change of Scenery (AEW Bound?) (2026)

5 WWE Superstars Who Would Benefit from a Fresh Start

In the world of professional wrestling, there comes a time in nearly every athlete’s journey when a shift to a different promotion could reignite their career. This transition could arise from a wrestler maximizing their potential in one organization or simply facing limited opportunities in their current environment. A new setting often offers a much-needed spark that can rejuvenate a career that has hit a lull.

In this article, we will explore several wrestlers from WWE and AEW who might greatly enhance their careers by making the switch. Here are five WWE stars we think would thrive with a change of scenery:

LA Knight

A significant segment of WWE’s fanbase has persistently advocated for LA Knight to ascend to the top tier of the company. Yet, for reasons known only to the higher-ups, WWE has shown hesitance in positioning the 43-year-old athlete in prominent roles. After a brief and unremarkable stint with WWE starting in 2014, Knight demonstrated his capability as a leading figure when he captured the TNA Championship under the alias Eli Drake. His return to WWE saw him initially trapped in the Max Dupri gimmick, but he eventually reclaimed his identity as LA Knight, earning the U.S. Championship in 2024. Unfortunately, he lost that title at WrestleMania 41 just months later and found himself facing another period of stagnation.

Currently on the sidelines due to an injury, Knight could channel his enduring fan support into greater achievements should he transition to AEW.

Bayley

Bayley remains a beloved figure among wrestling enthusiasts and continues to receive significant screen time through her partnership with Lyra Valkyria in an ongoing feud against the Judgment Day. Despite this, it seems that Bayley is far from the main event scene for the women’s division. Given her storied history as one of WWE’s premier female stars, she could easily transfer her impressive accolades to Tony Khan’s promotion and find herself in contention for the top championships. Moreover, she would reunite with familiar faces in AEW, such as Mercedes Moné, a fellow member of the Four Horsewomen in NXT and a true friend outside the ring.

Finn Balor

Finn Bálor made history as the inaugural WWE Universal Champion in 2016, only to relinquish the title the very next day due to a shoulder injury. Although he has held the Intercontinental and U.S. Championships, the Irish superstar has not secured a top title since that fateful moment. His current involvement with the Judgment Day faction has arguably marked his most fruitful tenure in WWE thus far, including multiple tag team championships. However, it appears he may have reached his peak with this group, especially as stablemate Dominik Mysterio is enjoying a meteoric rise. Transitioning to AEW could not only revitalize the 44-year-old Bálor’s career but also give American audiences the chance to witness an exciting clash between two former Bullet Club leaders if he were to engage in a rivalry with Kenny Omega.

Sami Zayn

Similar to others on this list, Sami Zayn has maintained his status as a fan favorite but may have hit his ceiling within WWE. While he has enjoyed success with various titles, he has not yet claimed the top championship. At 41, Zayn still possesses the ability to compete at a high level for several more years, and his willingness to take risks in the ring would surely resonate with AEW fans.

Omos

Standing at an imposing 7 feet 3 inches, Omos exemplifies an athlete whose talents have been underutilized on the main roster. His tag team partnership with veteran AJ Styles from 2020 to 2021 aimed to provide him with essential in-ring experience, but ultimately, this collaboration fizzled out. Following a stint with manager MVP, Omos's career has stagnated, and he has become more infamous for his long absences from the ring than for his performances.

Although he has recently resurfaced in AAA, where he has effectively showcased his abilities as a formidable heel, Omos could undoubtedly make a significant impact in AEW, likely winning over its audience in a similar fashion.

Honorable Mentions: Candice LeRae

Candice LeRae has been a notable presence on the independent circuit and has primarily served as a supporting character for figures like Nia Jax and her husband Johnny Gargano in their alliance with Tommaso Ciampa. Additionally, while some might argue for Shinsuke Nakamura moving to AEW, the Japanese star seems content winding down his career (at least in the U.S.) with occasional appearances for WWE.
